LAN
The best-in-class, most robust communication network available.
EnergyAxis LAN:
Proven, fast and interoperable Smart Grid solutions.
EnergyAxis boasts the most capable LAN in the industry.
With operational
speeds of 142kbps, flexible packet size and end-to-end IP connectivity,
this pervasive communications network will provide the speed and power
your utility needs for years to come.
The EnergyAxis LAN is made up of EA_LAN equipped network elements for measurement, sensing and control. The network elements are regulated by a gatekeeper to create a redundant, self-configuring and self-healing local area network. Each network element has an EA_NIC, a 900 MHz frequency hopping, spread spectrum (FHSS) communications interface card integrated under the device cover.
EnergyAxis LAN. Automatic… robust… easy.
The gatekeeper automatically sets up its local RF network and polls
all subnet endpoints according to flexible rules established by deployment
requirements. The layered architecture of EnergyAxis and the flexible
rules-based polling allows impressive system throughput as well as
data redundancy and preprocessing for backhaul optimization.
Operating with the proven reliable FHSS 900 MHz unlicensed radio, the EnergyAxis LAN uses multiple levels of meters as repeaters along with dedicated repeaters. In this way, each gatekeeper can reach up to 16 tiers of network elements, creating a robust two-way local area network.
The elements create the network, making installation quick and easy. As shown by millions of deployed units, EnergyAxis does not need infrastructure such as towers and substation equipment. Upon energization, each network element will automatically transmits its data to a nearby gatekeeper, which then updates the Management System. The gatekeeper’s LAN management algorithm automatically identifies and qualifies two unique communications paths to each system element assuring high availability for on-demand activities such as control operations.
How EnergyAxis does LAN better:
The networking ability of multiple AMI meters that act as repeaters (along with dedicated repeaters) circumvent most local RF problems
resulting from terrain, location, building construction, trees and
other signal impediments. This robust flexibility makes the EnergyAxis
LAN operation far more effective at communications than many other
fixed network designs.
EnergyAxis provides stringent security measures throughout the network at all levels. Security features are built into the end devices, the radio communications networks, the gatekeepers and the network management system. Data is protected while residing in the end devices and gatekeepers as well as during LAN transmission.
